Originally built nearly 200 years ago, this lakeside Muskoka cottage has been carefully restored and reinterpreted through a contemporary layer of architectural intervention. Rather than concealing the home’s original cedar interiors, contemporary architectural elements are introduced as a distinct layer, creating a quiet dialogue between old and new. A restrained palette of black, white, steel, and stone provides a backdrop for carefully curated furniture and the owners’ collection of Pop Art, bringing moments of colour and playfulness to the historic setting. From the kitchen and bathrooms to the screened porch and lakeside dock, each intervention is designed to complement rather than compete with the existing architecture.
